Our story

We started @by.marmelo with color and instinct. Pink and green, a kind of summer fever dream.

In wool: almost by accident, and a little out of season. We've never been good at waiting for the right month.

The cardigans are hand-knit from 100% merino wool. Heavy enough to feel grounded. Soft enough to wear on bare skin. Made to hold their shape and stay in your closet for a long time.

In Minas Gerais, where I'm from, we eat marmelada — a thick, sweet quince paste — with a slice of salty white cheese. Romeu e Julieta, we sometimes call it. Two things that shouldn't go together, that do. 

Say the word out loud. Mar-MEH-loo. It's a round, soft word, the kind you say with your mouth full. Like the cardigans themselves: bulky, soft, a little playful.

And the fruit it's named after? Green on the outside, pink inside. We didn't plan that part.
